A little on me

I’m a 31 year old wife to a brilliant man and mother to three really loving boys.

My menfolk and I live in Nashville Tennessee.

I have a dog named Temperance Joy who is a two year old shi-chi. (shi-tzu and chihuahua mix)

I also have two cats, Trinity; an eight year old wildcat mix and Dali; a three year old calico.

I have been journaling since I was 9 years old. Writing my feelings and thoughts comes much easier to me than talking about them. I really want to be more open and share my experiences of being a mom and being just me.

Call Me Dee

Like everyone, when I was born I was given a name, and that was Amy. And maybe it’s because I was born during a blizzard, but I have never really felt like an Amy. I always wanted a longer name so it could be shortened into a nickname. My favorite then? Samantha. Sam sammy antha, any thing but Amy. Now? I am partial to Dee.

As time went on I received a nickname that I hold dearly and with tremendous pride. MOM. I was awarded this one in 1998, when I looked into the eyes of our beautiful first son, Liam. Unlike other nicknames, you can’t make your husband or your friends call you “mom”. That would be weird I think.

Me and The Boys

A few years ago while I was trying to come up with an email address, I came across a word in Buddhism that means that which upholds or supports. Dharma. I love this word, for many reasons, most importantly it reminds me to be calm and to stay on the path. And along with an animal that can be so delicate and also very resilient, Dharmafrog was born.

Everyone I know, knows me as Amy. Everyone, my mother-in-law, my sister-in-laws, friends, my husband’s co-workers, even my dog groomer. Everyone, except me. I know myself not by a name but by feelings of being a supportive, loving, stubborn and compassionate wife and mother. Names are just names, it doesn’t make you who you are or what you are. It only shows what your parents were thinking at the time of your birth.
